Defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches's first training camp as a member of the New York Giants didn't exactly get off to the kind of start he was hoping for.

Nunez-Roches was involved in a car crash as he was leaving the team facility a week ago, the accident occurring less than a few feet away from the Giants' facility. Both cars were totaled in the car accident.

"I was coming through, and I saw (the other driver) approaching the stop sign, which she was supposed to stop," Nunez-Roches recalled. "I was coming through, and I saw her approaching the stop sign, which she was supposed to stop, but as I am looking at her, I’m like, ‘She’s going way too fast--I don’t think she’s going to stop.’

"I was able to apply the brake a couple of seconds before she hit me because if I didn’t, she was going to hit me straight on. As she hit me and I spun in a circle."

Nunez-Roches suffered a concussion which landed him in the protocol, causing him to miss the first three practices. It's unknown what, if any, injuries the other driver suffered.

Nunez-Roches, who was on his way home to his wife and kids when the accident happened, said he was thankful that things weren't worse. He also said he was more upset that he had to go to the hospital to be checked out before going home to his family.

"It was more frustration because I was heading home to help my wife put the kids down before bed check," he said. "It was just like, I was just disappointed that I wasn’t able to help because I knew I was going to have to go to the hospital. I knew I was going to have to do all these tests. I was more mad about that than the accident altogether. "

As for his concussion and any soreness, Nunez-Roches tried to look at things with perspective.

"I’m in a car wreck every week at practice, so it wasn’t anything different," he said. "God blessed me to be safe--no bumps, bruises, or broken anything, so it was all good.”
