The New York Giants will play the first of two home preseason games this week against the Carolina Panthers, who, like the Giants, are coming off a Week 1 loss.

A deep and talented Giants secondary will look to rattle the 2023 first-overall draft pick, quarterback Bryce Young. Young struggled in his debut, going 4-6 on passes and took a few big hits from the Jets defensive line in a 27-0 loss last week. The Carolina coaching staff expects Young to play well into the second quarter.

The Giants recorded two interceptions and one sack last week but gave up 18 second-half points. Consistent pressure and blanket coverage for four quarters will be key in wearing out Carolina’s backup quarterbacks.

As for the Giants offense, competition among the wide receivers and on the offensive line continue as themes throughout training camp and the preseason.

Giants wide receiver Cole Beasley missed practice on Wednesday with a leg issue, his status for the game is uncertain. Veteran Sterling Shepard could be getting his first snaps since tearing his ACL on September 26 last year.

All eyes, however, figure to be on the Giants offensive line. Although head coach Brian Daboll did not disclose the plan for playing the starters, this could be the week where the starters will see at least a series or two after sitting out last week's game.

And the initial offensive line combination that the Giants put on the field to start the game could provide a clue into how they envision the starting o-line to commence the regular season in a few weeks.
