New York Giant running back Saquon Barkley, still dealing with a high ankle sprain suffered in the Gitans' Week 2wiin over the Arizona Cardinals, is inactive for today's game at the Miami Dolphins.

Barkley was limited all week in practice, finally cleared to do team drills for the first time since his injury. While there was optimism about his progress there is still enough concern with his injury that his trying to play on it could create a setback.

Barkley has reiterated weekly that he would like to be with his teammates.

“I feel like I can help. I feel like I can help us get back on track,” Barkley said. “I know there are some people out there who wouldn’t agree with that, but that’s why I believe in my mindset. I’m fighting. I’m trying to do everything I can in my power to get back and be there for my teammates.”

Matt Breida is expected to be the lead running back, with Gary Brightwell, who, despite being on this week's injury report, didn't receive a final designation, rotating in.

New York will also be without three offensive linemen, including two starters, all of whom were declared out by the team on Friday. Those include left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring), center John Michael Schmitz (shoulder), and reserve interior lineman Shane Lemieux (groin).

From left to right, the starting offensive line projects as Joshua Ezeudu, Mark Glowinski, Ben Bredeson, Marcus McKethan, and Evan Neal. Neal is the only member of the offensive line to start all the 2023 games at the same spot.

On Saturday, New York elevated offensive linemen Jalen Mayfield and Jaylon Thomas from the practice squad for depth.

Inside linebacker Micah McFadden (ankle), listed as questionable coming into this week's game, is inactive. Expect Carter Coughlin (base) and Isaiah Simmons (sub packages) to see a healthy dose of snaps in McFadden's place.

The other Giants inactive are safety Gervarrius Owens and defensive lineman Jordon Riley, both healthy scratches.

Giants tight end Daniel Bellinger, who was listed as questionable with a knee injury, is active.

The Dolphins' inactive list consists of cornerback Kelvin Joseph, outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips, running back Salvon Ahmed, receiver Chase Claypool, nose tackle Brandon Pili, and quarterback Skylar Thompson.
