Ryan Connelly suffers a knee injury

Giants impressive rookie linebacker is carted off after right knee buckles under him.
Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

East Rutherford, N.J. --Giants rookie linebacker Ryan Connelly suffered a right knee injury in the fourth quarter of his team's 24-3 win over Washington

Connelly was trying to make a tackle when his leg folded underneath him. He laid on the turf in obvious pain, at one point smacking the side of his head as he was attended to by the Giants medical staff until a cart came out to take him into the locker room for further observation.

The Giants announced that Connelly was ruled out with the knee injury, but the severity of the injury wasn't immediately disclosed.

Connelly has been the Giants defensive signal-caller in place of veteran Alec Ogletree, who last week suffered a hamstring strain and who was inactive this week.

The rookie fifth-rounder had recorded five tackles, an interception, and a sack before being forced out of the game. He was replaced by Nate Stupar, who re-signed with the team this week.

The Giants are frightening thin at inside linebacker. In addition to Connely and Ogletree, Tae Davis (concussion) is also nursing an injury.
