Saquon Barkley Injures Ankle in Giants' Comeback Win
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley suffered what appeared to be a right ankle injury late in the fourth quarter of the Giants' 31-28 comeback win over the Arizona Cardinals.
Barkley appeared to have his ankle rolled up on during a 2nd-and-13 at the Cardinals' 23-yard line after a 2-yard run. He was seen pounding his fists on the ground and had to be helped to the Giants sideline, where he angrily slammed his helmet onto the turf.
Barkley is currently playing on the one-year franchise tag as he seeks a multiyear deal. Before the injury, he had 63 rushing yards on 17 carries and one rushing touchdown, and he caught six out of seven pass targets for 29 yards for another touchdown.
Barkley was seen leaving the State Farm Stadium Field with a huge wrap around his right ankle. He was also later spotted getting onto a cart, presumably to be taken for X-rays.
Barkley has a history of lower-body injuries, including a high ankle sprain and a torn ACL. The Giants will be holding their breath regarding the outcome of any diagnostic testing done on Barkley.
Head coach Brian Daboll did not have an update on Barkley's injury, but the running back was spotted in the locker room limping around and in visible pain, making his chances of being ready for Thursday night's game against the 49ers a long shot.
