Giants Add Two Running Backs, Place Two on IR

New York also adds an edge rusher to its practice squad.

The team made a few roster moves on Tuesday, with injuries piling up for the New York Giants.

New York placed running back Eric Gray (calf) and offensive tackle Matt Peart (shoulder) on the injured reserve list and filled those two roster spots with running back Jashaun Corbin, signed off the Panthers practice squad, and running back Deon Jackson, who was awarded to the Giants off waivers from Cleveland.

Jackson has ties to a couple of current Giants players, notably Andrew Thomas, with whom he shares the same high school (Pace Academy in Atlanta), and quarterback Daniel Jones, with whom he shares a Duke University alumni relationship.

Jackson is 5-foot-11 and 216 pounds. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Colts following the 2021 draft. Jackson was waived by the Colts this year and picked up by Cleveland to be on their practice squad.

He has appeared in 28 games with three starts and has rushed 94 times for 281 yards and two touchdowns while also having added 35 receptions (out of 40 pass targets) for 223 yards and a touchdown.

Corbin and Jackson give the Giants some reinforced depth at the running back position. In addition to Gray, who was injured returning a punt last week against the Washington Commanders, running back Gary Brightwell is also dealing with an ankle and hamstring injury, the latter having occurred in last week's game.

The Giants also signed outside linebacker Justin Hollins to their practice squad. Hollins was originally a fifth-round draft pick out of Oregon by the Denver Broncos in 2019. The 6-foot-5, 248-pounder also played for the Rams during the 2020-2022 seasons and the Packers from 2022 until earlier this year.

Hollins has appeared in 59 regular-season games with seven starts and has 9.5 sacks in his NFL career.
