The New York Giants have added a receiver, but not quite the splash at the position that fans might have hoped for.

Former Jets receiver and special teamer Jeff Smith agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth $1.2 million, including a $1.175 million base salary and up to $325,000 in bonuses/incentives, making this a veteran minimum deal.

Smith, 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, was originally signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Boston College in 2019. He's appeared in 36 games with seven starts and has caught 34 of 67 pass targets for 426 yards and no touchdowns over his career.

Smith is more revered for his special teams play. Per Pro Football Focus, he's contributed 58 career snaps on the punt coverage team (including some as a gunner), 35 on the count return team, and 92 on the kickoff coverage team.

The Giants are looking to restock their wide receiver room, which consists of Isaiah Hodgins, Sterling Shepard, Wan'Dale Robinson, and Colin Johnson. Shepard, Robinson, and Johnson are all recovering from season-ending injuries.

Darius Slayton and Richie James are both unrestricted free agents.
