It's amazing what a difference a couple of days can make.

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, who is trying to work his way back into the lineup from a neck injury suffered two weeks ago, was cleared to throw during Wednesday's practice but is still awaiting clearance for contact.

Still, that's a big step forward for Jones, who couldn't practice at all last week and who just yesterday, during a podcast appearance with Kay Adams of Up & Adams didn't sound overly positive about his chances for Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders.

"It felt good throwing. I’ve been throwing for a few days now," Jones said Wednesday. "I just continue to feel better every day."

Jones, who continued to decline to get into specifics regarding the nature of his injury, said the pain has subsided since he first suffered the injury and that he was "pretty close" to being symptom-free.

Three Big Questions About Daniel Jones's Giants Future

"I’ve just got to keep doing what I'm doing and trust the doctors and trainers and what they're telling me to do and keep going about it," Jones said.

The Giants are playing it safe with Jones as if he were to get hit a certain way, that could undo all the progress he's made from his treatment.

That's kind of a double-edged sword, though, as without experiencing contact, it becomes something of a guessing game as to whether Jones can handle it.

"I think it's just trusting the doctors and trainers when they say based on their evaluation that I'm ready for it," he said of resolving the dilemma of when he might be fit enough to take a hit. "Obviously, you want to be out there. It’s frustrating not being out there. But just trying to do everything I can do and control what I can in terms of my recovery."

Jones would love for nothing more than to get out on the field this weekend and play against the Washington Commanders, but he knows he has to be smart about it.

"I certainly want to play. We've got great doctors, great trainers. I trust them--lucky to have them. But yeah, everybody wants to play. Everybody wants to be on the field."

Especially Jones.
