The New York Giants reportedly plan to hire Jeff Nixon as their new running backs coach.

Nixon replaces DeAndre Smith, who took a coaching position with the Indianapolis Colts. Nixon, 48, was most recently with the Carolina Panthers as their assistant head coach.

Nixon began his coaching career in 1997 as a graduate assistant at Penn State. He first broke into the NFL as an offensive/special teams assistant with the Eagles in 2007, a role he held until 2010. He then went to the Dolphins as their running backs coach from 2011-2015, then to the 49ers as their tight ends coach in 2016 before returning to the college ranks at Baylor for the 2017-2019 seasons.

Matt Rhule hired him as the Panthers running backs coach in 2020. The following year, he received the additional duties of interim offensive coordinator after Joe Brady was relieved of his duties.

In 2022, he was named the assistant head coach on offense and the run game coordinator, holding that role even after Rhule was fired and Steve Wilks was named interim head coach.
