Giants Make Changes to Scouting Department

With the 2023 draft cycle completed, general manager Joe Schoen has made some additional changes to the team's personnel department.

Just after the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Draft, the New York Giants made a few in-house changes to their scouting and personnel department.

D.J. Boisture, a West Coast scout and has been with the team for over a decade, parted ways with the Giants, according to Neil Stratton of Inside the League (ITL). His father, Tom Boisture, was a longtime Giants executive and played a key role in the franchise's personnel department from 1980-2000.

The team is also losing Steven Price, a pro personnel scout named one of the top pro scouts in the NFL by his peers at the 2023 ITL Combine Seminar. Price is considering other options, according to Stratton.

It’s common for scouting departments and executive roles to undergo changes following a draft. Last year, the Giants personnel department underwent some significant changes, as general manager Joe Schoen didn't retain director of college scouting Chris Pettit, senior pro personnel executive Ken Sternfeld, senior pro scout Matt Shauger, co-director of player personnel Mark Koncz and senior personnel executive Kyle O’Brien.

Schoen has yet to hire a replacement for Pettit, but Stratton believes that could happen in the future. Schoen has connections with the Bills, where he was the assistant general manager from 2017-2022, and the Dolphins, where he was part of their scouting department from 2008-2016, so he could look to add someone from his past to replace Petit as well as fill other roles that might develop.

The Giants, who didn't confirm the departures of Boisture and Price, did announce some other changes to the scouting staff.

Marcus Cooper will become the team's national scout, Blaise Bell will be an area scout, Marquis Pendleton a pro scout, and Justin Markus will become the team’s scout in the BLESTO Scouting Combine.

Cooper was previously an area scout, most recently in the southeast. Bell was the Giants’ BLESTO scout the previous three seasons. Pendleton served as the Giants’ BLESTO scout for four seasons before spending the last year as an area scout in the northeast, and Markus was a player personnel assistant for the Giants during the 2022 season.
