The New York Giants have released their first unofficial depth chart of the summer. While the chart is fluid at this point, it offers some clarity on how the team might be taking shape at some key positions.

The Giants interior offensive line consists of Mark Glowinski at right guard, John Michael Schmitz at center, and Ben Bredeson at left guard. Bredeson has been competing at center and left guard, but in reality, his work at center this summer could just be a way for him to build on the 30 game snaps he had last year at the position.

Bredeson, who has worked at all three interior offensive line positions this summer, is listed as OC2 behind Schmitz. , with Shane Lemieux listed as OC3, and Jack Anderson OC4.

At left guard behind Bredeson is Tyre Phillips, who has been working at guard for the Giants this summer for the first time (he played guard during his time in Baltimore). Phillips can also give the Giants some snaps at offensive tackle, which would give him a leg up in the competition with, for example, Matt Peart, who will step in for Evan Neal on Friday if Neal isn't cleared in time from the concussion protocol.

Before camp began, the thought was that second-year man Joshua Ezeudu might be LG02, but he's instead listed as RG02, behind Glowinski.

"We have a plan, so we're working through all those spots," said offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.  "I mean, there's a lot of groups that we're working through and how to put people in different spots. That's just part of the constant evaluation process for us."

Lawrence Cager is listed as the third man on the depth chart at tight end, behind Darren Waller and Daniel Bellinger. And at receiver, the Giants have Isaiah Hodgins, Parris Campbell (slot), and Darius Slayton as their top guys.

Jalin Hyatt is WR2 behind Hodgins; Cole Beasley is listed as the second slot receiver behind Campbell, and Sterling Shepard is WR02 behind Slayton.

On the defensive side of the ball, Darrian Beavers is listed ahead of Micah McFadden at the WILL linebacker, while Carter Coughlin is listed as MLB02 behind starter Bobby Okereke.

Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, who praised McFadden during OTAs for having improved, was asked last week what he's seen from the young linebackers.

"It’s great competition in that room," he said. "I’ll be able to answer those questions better after we get some preseason games and do things like that, but we’re excited."

The starting corners are Adoree' Jackson (left) and rookie Deonte Banks (right). Rookie Tre Hawkins III is LCB02, and Amani Oruwariye, the former Lion, is RCB02. Darnay Holmes is listed as the top slot cornerback, followed by Cor'Dale Flott.

At strong safety, Jason Pinnock is listed s the starter next to free safety Xavier McKinney. Behind Pinnock is second-year man Dane Belton, and behind McKinney is cornerback convert Nick McCloud.

On special teams, running back Eric Gray is the punt returner, and Gary Brightwell is the kickoff returner. Gray has also been spotted fielding kickoffs in recent practices.

"I think he’s got good short space quickness, good balance, good vision," head coach Brian Daboll said of Gray as both a runing back and return specialist. "He’s got some good moves in the open field, he’s a one-cut guy. A young guy I think has some talent to work with and now we’ve got to try to develop it. We’ll give him ample opportunity in the preseason to return these balls."

The Giants open their 2023 preseason schedule Friday against the Lions, with whom whom they'll be practicing on Tuesday and Wednesday.
