Darren Waller Keeping an Optimistic Outlook on Future
The New York Giants entered the season with high hopes. On paper, the Giants possessed what seemed to be a team with a legitimate shot at the playoffs. Seventeen games later, that seems like an afterthought after the Giants finished the season 6-11, losing five of their last seven games.
Tight end Darren Waller was added to the mix with the expectations that he would be a significant part of the Giants' playoff push. Waller, however, would have an injury-plagued season, missing five games. Still, Waller enjoyed his first season in New York.
"I've enjoyed it," Waller said. "It's been a lot of ups and downs in a lot of different facets. As far as the guys, relationships, and the journey, just take from it, learn from it, and how I grew from it as a man and as a teammate."
"I'll always say that a year was good for me because there were always lessons and principles I could take with me to wherever my life takes me."
Like many other players in the locker room, Waller was disappointed in how the season turned out for himself and the team. Waller shared how tough it is to win in the National Football League.
"A little bit, yeah, naturally [disappointed] because we had greater expectations coming into this season," Waller said. "In the league, it's tough to win week-in, week-out. It's tough to win year-to-year."
"You can get to a certain place and think you'll be right back there the next year, but this is a rough league. There's a lot talented teams, there's a lot of talented teams on the rise and you're not guaranteed that. So, yeah, it is disappointing.
Giants TE Darren Waller is Working on a New Album | HEAR IT!
The National Football League is a business, and things change fast, but Waller says he is approaching the offseason as if he'll be with the Giants again next season.
While he doesn't plan on changing teams, he is open to changing how he prepares and takes care of his body, as what he's currently done hasn't worked.
"I'm always open to changing the way that I do things," Waller said. "I don't ever want to be too stuck in my ways and think that I know everything because, as far as that's [training] concerned, obviously, I don't."
"I'm always going to remain open and see what I can do to make sure that I'm available as much as possible. I'll approach it like I'll be back, and whatever happens is whatever happens. I'll be here."
