Giants Have Flexibility in Addressing Most Roster Needs
The New York Giants finished this season 6-11, much to the disappointment of everyone in and around the organization. With the season now over, the Giants turn their attention to the offseason, when teams with realistic expectations of improvements take a deep dive into their roster to see where they can improve.
The good news for the Giants is they have the NFL Draft and free agency as tools to help them find talent to bring in. The Giants have the sixth-overall pick in this year's draft, and they have so many holes to fill that they should be able to successfully find top talent to fill one of those positions heading into next season.
The fact that they have so many positions that need help allows the team flexibility regarding who they draft. New York can pick from many positions on their roster to upgrade on draft day, and they have four picks in the first three rounds. This gives them plenty of opportunities to address multiple needs.
Their offensive line is a significant area that needs to be upgraded. Adding another top talent at that position could go a long way in fortifying the Giants' offensive line, which has ranked as one of the worst in the league over the last few seasons. Or, the Giants could find equal talent with more experience by adding talent to their offensive line via free agency.
Depending on what happens with running back Saquon Barkley, the Giants may have to find another every-down back or multiple capable running backs to fill the void Barkley could potentially leave. New York could also upgrade their wide receiving corps to help make their $160 million investment in Daniel Jones more sensible. Essentially, every team in the NFC East has a standout wide receiver on their team; the Giants do not.
New York's roster has many other positions that could use an infusion of talent. The Giants play in one of the toughest divisions in the National Football League. If they hope to turn things around next season, they must make a concerted effort to improve their roster, strength, and conditioning.
However, as much as the Giants have needs on their roster that need to be upgraded, the players might not be the only personnel in New York's locker room that needs to be upgraded.
