Report: Giants to Host Veteran CB William Jackson III for Workout

The Giants are looking to upgrade their cornerback depth.

According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the New York Giants will reportedly be hosting veteran cornerback William Jackson III for a workout this week.

Jackson, 6-foot and 189 pounds, was the Bengals' first-round draft pick in 2016 after a college career at Houston. He played four seasons with the Bengals before spending a year and a half with the Commanders, who then traded him and a conditional 2025 seventh-round pick in exchange for a conditional 2025 sixth-round selection.

Jackson, who signed a three-year, $40.5 million deal with the Commanders after the 2021 season, dealt with a back injury last year that limited him to just four games (all with Washington)due to a back ailment. He was traded to the Steelers in November last season but didn't appear in any games. The Steelers released Jackson on March 10 of this year.

Jackson has appeared in 75 regular-season games with 64 starts and has 205 tackles (170 solos), five interceptions (1 for a touchdown(, 51 pass breakups, and six tackles for loss in that span.

The Giants appear to be looking for depth upgrades behind projected starters Adoree' Jackson, Deonte Banks, and rookie Tre Hawkins. Cor'Dale Flott has been in and out of practice with injuries. Nick McCloud, who can play safety and cornerback, has also been sidelined with an ailment. Aaron Robinson, who is on the PUP list, appears no closer to being activated with a week before roster cut-down day.

The Giants also have Darnay Holmes, Amari Oruwariye, Darren Evans, Gemon Green, and Zyon Gilbert competing at cornerback. Holmes is widely believed to be a strong candidate to be cut, given his lack of solid showing this summer and his $2.7 million cap savings.

The Giants have an open roster spot to add Jackson after waiving cornerback Rodarius Williams last week.
