Sterling Shepard Back in the Concussion Protocol

This is the receiver's second time in the protocol, and he could be in it for a while.

Giants receiver Sterling Shepard is not expected to play Thursday night when the team visits New England.

According to a source, Shepard showed up for work this morning, exhibiting signs associated with a concussion. Given his recent history--he missed the Week 2 game against Buffalo with a concussion--Shepard could be looking at missing multiple games this time around.

Shepard was removed from the second half of Sunday’s loss to the Vikings when he appeared woozy after being hit on an incomplete pass. After being evaluated for a concussion, he was cleared to return and came back to finish the game, where he had five receptions for 49 yards.

I didn’t really have a reaction,” Shepard said when asked about being removed from the game at that point. “Just whatever they say for me to do and then go back out there.”

Shepard, who also said after yesterday’s game that he felt fine physically, was at the center of a mini-controversy, though not of his own doing.

In Week 1 against the Cowboys, the NFL spotters failed to remove him from the game when he came up woozy following a ht. Shepard would then appear on the ensuing week’s injury report as being int eh protocol and missed the Week 2 game against Buffalo.

Shepard has 25 receptions for 267 yards and one touchdown this season.
