2024 NFL Draft: Georgia's Amarius Mims Visits Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars are continuing to host several top prospects ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, with one of the latest official top-30 visits being Georgia offensive lineman Amarius Mims.
Mims could be a potential option for the Jaguars at No. 17 overall, with the Georgia star widely projected to be a mid-first round selection in two weeks.
A former five-star recruit and top-10 prospect out of high school, Mims appeared in eight games as a freshman in 2021. He entered the transfer portal in 2022 before returning to Georgia and appearing in 14 games in 2022, including starts in the College Football Playoff semifinal and in the national championship.
Mims started six games at right tackle in 2023, though he did miss time due to an ankle injury.
The Jaguars selected Oklahoma offensive tackle Anton Harrison with the No. 27 overall last year, making him the first offensive lineman selected in the first round by the franchise since Luke Joeckel in 2013.
If the Jaguars were to select an offensive lineman at No. 17, the rookie will have to potentially enter his rookie season as a backup. The Jaguars are returning both Harrison and left tackles Cam Robinson and Walker Little, along with returning left guard Ezra Cleveland and right guard Brandon Scherff. The Jaguars also signed center Mitch Morse in free agency.
"The biggest thing for us is that we do have to get better in the run game. That’s a given, even as well as TJ [RB Travis Etienne Jr.], he was a 1,000-yard rusher last year. We still have to get better," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said at the league meetings in Orlando.
"There’s still more on the table. That helps your quarterback. You’ve got to be able to run the ball in this league as well. It sets up a lot of different things for you. So that’s something as a staff we’ve been focused on this offseason."
