The Jacksonville Jaguars are hoping for a big year from free agent wide receiver Gabe Davis, who the team signed to a three-year, $39 million deal in free agency. The ex-Buffalo Bill will be depended on to improve a Jaguars' passing game that will be replacing Calvin Ridley and looking to outdo last year's dissapointment.

But what exactly are the Jaguars getting in Davis? Nathaniel Marrero of Bills Central breaks it down for us.

Why didn't Gabe Davis re-sign with the Bills? Was there any interest?

Marrero: I think going into this season, it was known that this would probably be Gabe Davis' final season given the Bills' cap constraints. They were over $40 million over the cap and had plenty of free agents alongside Davis. I'm sure it was a situation where Buffalo would have brought him back on a team-friendly contract, but there was no way it was going to match what Jacksonville gave him.

What does Gabe Davis do best?

Marrero: Davis is a big play receiver. He led the Bills in receiving yards per reception since he entered the league in 2020 and has never averaged less than 15 yards per catch. Davis may have had his ups and downs throughout his tenure, but when he did get the ball, it was usually for a big play. He was also a consistent red-zone target, as he never had a season with less than six touchdowns.

What are some of Gabe Davis' weaknesses?

Marrero: There was a lot of inconsistency with the amount of targets and catches he got last season. Davis had four games where he had at least four catches, but he also had five games where he didn't register a single catch. There were also multiple moments during the season where you could tell he and Josh Allen weren't on the same page. If Jacksonville is going to get the most out of Davis, it has to avoid him disappearing in multiple games.

Is Davis someone who the Bills will struggle to replace?

Marrero: I think his big play ability and ability to stretch the field will
be missed if Buffalo doesn't land a receiver early in the draft. I
wouldn't describe the loss of Davis as the most devastating for the
Bills, but they definitely can't go into next season without a player
who can do what he did and replace his production.
