Jaguars 25, Lions 7: Which Jags Roared Loudest Against the Lions?
Week 2 of the NFL Preseason is in the books and was a similar experience to watching an episode of Ted Lasso. There’s some game action where the score doesn’t matter beyond adding gravity to the head coach’s dialogue. Moreover, while we analyze the performance of the players in the exhibition, we are far from entering the meat of this season.
With that in mind, it’s time to walk through which of the Jacksonville Jaguars roared loudest facing the Lions in Detroit.
Jeremiah Ledbetter
With the way the “Duval Devout” were reeling from the Ravens signing Jadeveon Clowney after visiting Jacksonville, seeing defensive Jeremiah Ledbetter feast upon Detroit while imploding plays upfront and seeing a defensive lineman operate this way without defensive tackle Folorunso Fatukasi is a breath of fresh air. Not only did he record a sack early in the contest, he was central in run stops as well.
Also, seeing him get a forced fumble against the franchise that drafted him in the 6th round in 2017 only adds a bit more entertainment to the equation. He was a big part of why Jacksonville headed to the locker room up 12-0.
Tank Bigsby
While people seemed more excited than I did about the third-round-drafted rookie’s performance against the Cowboys, Bigsby flashed running the football against Detroit to demonstrate that his motor is always running.
It’s one thing to get yards when you squeeze through the holes made up front, it’s completely another when you get slowed and bounce to another lane to turn something into nothing. It certainly makes his 70 yards on 13 carries a bit more impressive.
Tim Jones
When you have a quarterback turning in a pedestrian performance as CJ Beathard did, to see Tim Jones haul in a 48 -yard completion on a pass through the back of the covering defender only holds an even higher premium.
While the second-year undrafted man from Southern Miss didn’t put points on the board like wide receiver Parker Washington did in the late first half, his effort to find and snag that ball through was far more impressive.
D’Ernest Johnson
While quarterback Nathan Rourke came in representing the Great White North just as the Jaguar Report’s Daniel Griffis said he would with his 10-for-12 passing with 112 yards, it was the undrafted man out of USF in 2018 who turned in two touchdowns rushing.
With history linked to the Alliance of American Football as a member of the Orlando Apollos who were the top team in the league before it folded in its only season, D’Ernest Johnson was a force to be reckoned with as a Cleveland Brown. His six carries for 36 yards will make a compelling case for a roster spot.
