Jaguars vs. 49ers: Trent Williams Set to Play
The Josh Allen vs. Trent Williams bout is officially set.
The Jaguars' top pass-rusher and Defensive Player of the Year candidate will face-off against a future Hall of Fame left tackle in Week 10, with Williams officially being announced as active on Sunday.
Williams missed practice on Wednesday before being limited on Thursday and Friday.
"Yeah, I think obviously there is. I mean, just when you have -- he's got a lot of history in there with stuff. It didn't show up as a high or anything like that. But when you've had that over your career, there's a number of things that, with how it's taken longer than expected to heal, it's more than a low," 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said about Williams' ankle injury, which kept him out of practice on Wednesday.
"49ers’ LT Trent Williams has been adamant with the team that he wants and intends to play today, despite his sprained ankle and “questionable” injury designation. And even though he is not fully recovered, he will start today vs. the Jaguars, giving the team an emotional boost," ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Sunday morning.
Considering Williams is a 10-time Pro Bowler and has been a First-Team All-Pro in each of the last two seasons, the stage is set for Sunday's battle with Allen to be one of the most important on Sunday. The left side of the offensive line is where Jaguars outside linebacker Josh Allen lines up more often than not at over 85% of his snaps.
