Josh Allen Passes Yannick Ngakoue for 2nd All-Time in Sacks in Jaguars History

The Jaguars got a big-time performance from Josh Allen in Week 12 vs. the Texans.

With his future in Jacksonville in doubt, Josh Allen needed a stellar season to prove he was deserving of a second contract with the team. He’s been the team’s best pass-rusher for several years, however, fans yearned for that breakout season by the star defender.

That time has come.

In a pivotal AFC South matchup with the fate of the division at stake, Allen delivered his 38th career sack on Houston Texans’ quarterback C.J Stroud. With that sack, Allen has now passed Yannick Ngakoue for the second-most sacks in franchise history, behind only Tony Brackens, who amassed 55.0 sacks in his eight seasons as a Jaguar.

Not shortly after, deep into the fourth quarter on Houston’s final drive, Allen came up big twice more. Allen collected his second sack of the game, tackling Stroud 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage. However, the former seventh-overall pick wasn’t done yet.

First down, ball on the Jaguars’ 37-yard line, Allen delivered yet again. Allen snagged the back of Stroud’s jersey, holding him until the arrival of fellow pass-rusher, Travon Walker. The two brought Stroud down for the team’s fourth sack of the day, sealing Jacksonville’s eighth victory of the season.

Allen, the Jaguars’ 6th captain for today’s game, leads the team with 12 sacks on the year and an impressive 48 pressures after the contest. Allen’s 12 sacks also sets a season-high for him. His previous best of 10.5 sacks was set during his rookie year as a rotational pass-rusher along with Yannick Ngakoue and Calais Campbell.

Additionally, Allen is currently on pace to break the franchise single-season record of 14.5 sacks set by Calais Campbell back in the Jaguars’ remarkable 2017 season. Now, Allen just needs 3 more in the team’s final six games to break that figure.

Game on the line, you look to your best players to go win you the game. Today, Josh Allen did just that. Allen showed up and showed out, saving his best for the Texans’ final drive. He is still, yet, without a second contract, although, it will be nigh impossible to allow the former Kentucky Wildcat to hit free agency following a game and season like this.

He’s the heart and soul of the defense. This Jacksonville roster simply wouldn’t be the same without No. 41 rushing the passer, wreaking havoc for opposing quarterbacks in the teal and black. One day, fans just might see Allen shatter Tony Brackens’ long-held record of 55.0 sacks.
