Report: Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence Sustained Sprained Ankle vs. Bengals
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence left Monday's 34-31 overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals with what ultimately is a sprained ankle, according to reports.
Lawrence could be seen in the locker room speaking to teammates and on crutches after leaving the game with 5:43 left in the game, falling to the ground after a sack.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the injury is ultimately an ankle sprain.
"Initial testing showed that Jaguars’ QB Trevor Lawrence sprained his ankle, per source. Lawrence is scheduled to undergo additional testing tonight and Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury and how much time he will miss," Schefter said.
Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said after the game that he had no update, but that he had 100% confidence in backup quarterback C.J. Beathard.
Beathard, who is in his seventh season and his third with the Jaguars, has not started a game since the 2020 season.
Beathard played the final two drives for the Jaguars, completing 9-of-10 passes for 63 yards and nearly completing a potential game-winning pass to Calvin Ridley in overtime that was negated by a holding call on Anton Harrison. Were it not for the flag, the Jaguars would have been two yards away from a 37-31 overtime victory.
All eyes will now turn to Lawrence, who sustained a knee injury earlier this season but missed no time. At 8-4, the Jaguars hold only a one-game lead in the AFC South over the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans, who both sit at 7-5.
