2024 Offseason: From Josh Allen to Calvin Ridley, Which Jaguars Are Free Agents?
The Jacksonville Jaguars have a lot of roster questions to answer in 2024.
After running it back with the same cast in 2023 as the year before, the Jaguars have several expiring contracts facing them as they enter the 2024 offseason.
So, which Jaguars are set to be free agents when the new league year begins on March 13? We examine below.
Unrestricted Free Agents
Josh Allen: One of the most important pending free agents in franchise history, Josh Allen is set for a huge payday after 17.5 sacks this season. It seems unlikely he doesn't play in Jacksonville in 2024, but it remains to be seen if that is on a new deal or on the franchise tag.
Calvin Ridley: Ridley caught 76 passes for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023, though it is unclear what kind of compensation the Jaguars would have to give the Falcons to retain Ridley.
Ezra Cleveland: The Jaguars' starting left guard in four games this season after the Jaguars gave up a late Day 3 pick at the trade deadline to acquire him.
Jamal Agnew: Only playing in 11 games due to injury, Jamal Agnew still looked like an explosive return man in 2023.
Brandon McManus: After a wonderful middle portion of the season, Brandon McManus struggled down the stretch and could be seen as a question mark.
K'Lavon Chaisson: Given 175 more snaps in 2023 compared to the previous year, K'Lavon Chaisson recorded a career-high two sacks.
Dawuane Smoot: Playing in 11 games after an Achilles injury last winter, Smoot recorded one sack in a rotational role.
Tre Herndon: Jacksonville's starting nickel cornerback for the last 1.5 seasons, Tre Herndon has been with the franchise since 2018 after signing as an undrafted free agent.
Tyler Shatley: His strength is his strength! The longest-tenured current Jaguar, he has started games at both guard and center.
D'Ernest Johnson: The Jaguars' backup running back for much of 2023, D'Ernest Johnson only got five touches over the final three games.
Angelo Blackson: Playing the Corey Peters in 2023, Angelo Blackson scooped up three fumbles but was mostly a healthy scratch down the stretch.
Daniel Thomas: One of the best gunners in football, though his season ended with a fractured arm.
Shaquille Quarterman: A core special teamer who was given just 29 defensive snaps over the last two seasons.
Matt Barkley: Matt Barkley spent the final two weeks of the season with the Jaguars as Trevor Lawrence dealt with a shoulder injury.
Restricted Free Agents
These are free agents who do not have four accrued seasons. RFAs are free to negotiate and sign with any team, but their original team can offer them one of various qualifying offers that come with the right of first refusal and/or draft-pick compensation.
Cole Van Lanen: Acquired by the Jaguars in a trade last year, Cole Van Lanen appeared in nine games in 2023.
Blake Hance: A backup offensive lineman who played both tackle and guard at times, the Jaguars saw Hance as their top backup for much of the 2024 season.
Caleb Johnson: Caleb Johnson hasn't played a defensive snap in two years with the Jaguars, but he has played 558 special teams snaps in that span.
Exclusive Rights Free Agents
This is simple: these are free agents who do not have three accrued seasons. To retain them, the Jaguars simply need to extend a qualifying offer to them, which equates to a one-year contract.
Tim Jones: A key special teamer, Tim Jones saw his offensive snaps increase from 13% in 2022 to 29% in 2023. Jones caught 11 passes for 83 yards on the season.
Jeremiah Ledbetter: After making the team thanks to a strong preseason, Jeremiah Ledbetter appeared in all 17 games for the Jaguars. Playing 33% of the defensive snaps, Ledbetter record 24 tackles, one tackle for loss and one quarterback hit.
Jaylon Moore: The former undrafted free agent spent the 2023 season on injured reserve.
Gregory Junior: A former sixth-round pick who flashed throughout training camp, Gregory Junior played 199 combined defensive and special teams snaps in 2023.
