Jadeveon Clowney Signs With Ravens After Visit With Jaguars

The Jaguars won't be landing Jadeveon Clowney after all.

Less than a week after former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney was at the Miller Electric Center for a visit with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the veteran pass-rusher is signing elsewhere.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Clowney agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens on Friday.

While Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said on Monday that Clowney and the Jaguars had a good visit, he didn't expound much on the meeting, which Clowney left without a contract offer. It seems the Jaguars were checking in on Clowney and doing their homework, but the interest never really got to that next gear like it clearly did with Baltimore.

Clowney, 30, spent the last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns, appearing in 26 games and recording 11 sacks. In 2022, Clowney recorded two sacks and four tackles for loss in 12 games and 10 starts.

The No. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Clowney has spent time with the Houston Texans, Seattle Seahawks and the Tennessee Titans. In nine seasons, Clowney has been voted to the Pro Bowl three times and has appeared in 114 games with 103 starts. In that span, Clowney has recorded 44.5 sacks, 94 tackles for loss, 114 quarterback hits, eight fumble recoveries, and 13 forced fumbles.

The Jaguars' pass-rush unit is currently led by fellow former No. 1 pick Travon Walker and 2019 first-round pick Josh Allen. It is platooned by 2020 first-round pick K'Lavon Chaisson, third-year pass-rusher Jordan Smith, and rookie Yasir Abdullah, who recorded a sack vs. the Cowboys last Saturday.

“I thought that first group did a really nice job of putting pressure on the quarterback. Whether it was five, really it was four-man rushes. Roy [Robertson-Harris] had some really good rushes interior on the guards," Pederson said earlier this week.

"I thought Travon [Walker] did a nice job coming off the edge in the game. It’s that first unit, you could feel the pocket sort of collapse around the quarterback in those first two drives. That’s what you want to see. It did affect some of the throws, so we were pleased. A good first day for them and even with the young guys, you saw some tackle for losses. Jordan Smith had a couple of tackle for losses. Yasir [Abdullah] had a nice sack late in the game. It’s just still continuing to work in progress, the more snaps these young guys get, the better they’re going to feel out there. I thought overall the pressure was really good and getting the quarterback on the ground.”
