Jaguars Place DaVon Hamilton and Cooper Hodges on IR, Fill 53-Man Roster and Practice Squad

The Jaguars made multiple moves to fill out their 53-man roster and practice squad on Thursday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars made multiple moves to shape their 53-man roster and practice squad on Thursday, including placing starting defensive lineman DaVon Hamilton on injured reserve.

Hamilton -- and rookie guard Cooper Hodges, who was also placed on injured reserve -- will have to miss at minimum the first four games of the season but is eligible to return in 2023.

Hamilton has been out since the Jaguars' second preseason game with a non-football related medical issue with his back. Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said Monday that Hamilton was back in the building, but the undisclosed injury will now shelf him for Week 1 and the few weeks beyond.

With Hamilton set to miss at least the first four games of the season, the Jaguars will have to lean heavily on starters Foley Fatukasi and Roy Robertson-Harris, along with backups Adam Gotsis, Tyler Lacy, and Jeremiah Ledbetter.

Drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft with the No. 73 overall pick, Hamilton was the first member of the Jaguars' 2020 class to sign a new deal with the team. Hamilton is the first Jaguars draft pick to sign an extension since Cam Robinson and punter Logan Cooke.

Hamilton has appeared in 46 games for the Jaguars, starting 30. In that span, he has recorded 132 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and four pass deflections.

Hamilton had his best season in 2022, starting 14 games and recording 56 tackles, five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks while playing 53% of the snaps.

To fill Hamilton's and Hodge's now-vacant roster spots, the Jaguars signed defensive lineman Angelo Blackson and re-signed offensive lineman Blake Hance.

The Jaguars also signed four players to their practice squad, giving them a full practice squad entering Week 1. The practice squad is as follows.

  • OL Chandler Brewer
  • OLB D.J. Coleman
  • OL Coy Cronk
  • DL De’Shaan Dixon
  • CB Erick Hallett II
  • LB Dequan Jackson
  • TE Derek Parish
  • QB Nathan Rourke
  • OL Darryl Williams
  • WR Seth Williams
  • CB Tevaughn Campbell
  • RB Snoop Conner
  • WR Jacob Harris
  • DL Esezi Otomewo
  • DL Tommy Togiai
  • TE Josh Pederson
  • S Ayo Oyelola (International Player Pathway Program practice squad exemption)
