Jaguars' Trent Baalke on Cam Robinson: 'The Expectation Is That He Will Be Back'

While the Jaguars would save plenty of money be moving on from Cam Robinson, perhaps that type of move isn't in the cards for 2024.

While many have pegged Jacksonville Jaguars left tackle Cam Robinson as a potential cap casualty for 2024, general manager Trent Baalke implied on Tuesday this was far from the case.

“I don’t know where the ambiguity was, he’s under contract and the expectation is that he will be back," Baalke said at the NFL Scouting Combine when asked about Robinson.

"We have had a lot of discussions over the last two weeks, we obviously have a lot of moves we’ve got to do. There’s a lot of players that have hit free agency, there’s another bunch of young guys that we’re working on potential extensions for. We’ve got a lot of balls in the air right now and we’re just going to try to play them one by one.”

The Jaguars would save over $16 million and only take on $5 million in dead cap if they moved on from Robinson this offseason. But for now, it doesn't appear the Jaguars care much about potential savings when it comes to their left tackle.

Robinson, who just wrapped up his seventh season with the Jaguars, started nine games at left tackle last year after missing four games due to suspension and four games due to injury.

A second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Robinson was given a three-year extension by the Jaguars in the 2022 offseason. Robinson has started 84 games for the Jaguars since 2017, including 25 games at left tackle in the Doug Pederson era.

"I hope so, you know, as an organization. I mean, he's under contract and I just think that you know, Cam brings an edge. Cam brings some physicality, you know, to the offensive line," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said on Tuesday.

"He has to -- he's like Trevor -- he understands that hey, his role is to help this team win and can't put the team, can't put the players, can't put us in situations that he did last year. Now the injury is out of anybody's control but talking about the suspension, right, and and it's about being a pro. And listen, these are conversations that Cam, we know, he's had and we've had, you know. I definitely like having him on the team. He's fun to be around, brings a lot of energy out there and it makes us better."
