Report: Jaguars and Ravens Were Also Interested in Chase Young

The Jaguars were evidently looking for all kinds of help for their pass-rush at the trade deadline.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will face former No. 2 overall pick Chase Young this weekend when the San Francisco 49ers roll into town. But had things gone a different way, perhaps Sweat would have suited up for a different team at EverBank Stadium this weekend.

According to Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz, the Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens were in the running to trade for Young at last week's trade deadline. Young was eventually traded to the 49ers for a third-round selection.

"Sources tell me that both Jacksonville and Baltimore, the Jags and ravens were in on Chase Young," Schultz said. "There were a multitude of teams very interested in his services. And obviously Washington had to pick what they felt was the best offer. They felt they got it from San Francisco. But the bottom line is that both Jacksonville and Baltimore were in on Chase young until that very end when he goes to San Francisco."

After a rookie season with 7.5 sacks and four forced fumbles that led to Young being named the Defensive Rookie of the Year, the former Ohio State Buckeye, an ACL injury in 2021 limited Young to just 12 games and 1.5 sacks in 2021 and 2022.

Finally healthy in 2022, Young has played in seven games and has recorded five-sacks while also ranking top-10s in pressures and pass-rush win-rate.

“Well, we have experience and we have film on Chase in Washington. We coached against him and he’s an excellent football player," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said on Wednesday when asked about preparing for Young this weekend.

Aside from Young, the Jaguars were also reportedly tied to Danielle Hunter and Brian Burns at the deadline, showing that the Jaguars were clearly hoping to improve their pass-rush at the deadline.

A trade for a pass-rusher never happened, though the Jaguars did strike a deal for Minnesota Vikings left guard Ezra Cleveland for a sixth-round pick.
