2023 NFL Playoffs: Jaguars Enter Week 13 With 99% Shot at Postseason

According to the New York Times Playoff Machine, the Jaguars have a nearly 100% chance at making a trip to the playoffs.

The Jacksonville Jaguars haven't made back-to-back trips to the postseason since 1998 and 1999. It sure looks like that will change this year.

Sitting at 8-3 and with a two-game lead in the AFC South, the Jaguars; job isn't finished yet, but should be soon. With games against several backup quarterbacks and teams with losing records on the docket, the odds of the Jaguars making a postseason run are about as high as they could possibly get after their 24-14 win over the Houston Texans.

According to the New York Times Playoff Machine, the Jaguars have a 99% chance to make the postseason entering Week 13. And even if they do end up losing to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football, their chances would only drop to 97%.

The Jaguars needed a late-season run and string of last-minute wins to make the playoffs a year ago. Now, the Jaguars are set up to secure a playoff spot likely by the middle of December, which would have once been a pipedream for the franchise.

"No, I’ll tell you this the deeper into the season we get, I think the better we play as a football team. It’s really easier for me to keep the guys focused and keep their attention to detail," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said on Monday.

"This time of year, too, there’s a lot of speculation and talk of playoff picture and seedings and all that stuff. That generates a little bit of interest there. Even though we don’t look past the week we’re in, you can’t help yourself but listening to the outside noise and the media talk about that. For us, this is what I appreciate about our guys, they really stay in the moment, they stay in the present. They just focus on the task at hand and that’s just getting better this week. It’s fun when you’re winning, because you want to continue to play more games and continue to win and have success. The minute you let up, look into the future a little bit, is when you get beat. It’s my job to make sure that the guys stay locked in and present.”
