Anonymous AFC South Executive: Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence 'Is Special'
There is zero doubt about what Trevor Lawrence brings to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The franchise quarterback and former No. 1 overall pick has stabilized the most important position in sports for the first time in decades, giving the Jaguars a chance to go toe-to-toe with any team as long as he is under center -- no matter what the rest of the roster looks like around him.
In a story from FanBuzz's Matt Lombardo, one rival AFC South executive pointed out that the Jaguars haven't stacked their roster in recent years, but it doesn't particularly matter because the Jaguars have a talent like Lawrence.
"Trevor Lawrence is special," a rival AFC South Scouting Director Told FanBuzz, following Sunday morning's contest. "The Jaguars are a good team right now, but they could be great if they had drafted better the last two years."
Lawrence completed 23 passes on 30 attempts for 207 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 25-20 win over the Buffalo Bills, with a 105.8 rating. Lawrence rushed for 42 yards including a 22-yard rush, which was the third longest rush in his career.
"We always take a look at their third down defenses and one of the top third down defenses in the NFL right now. Obviously, their pass rush can get after you. Coach McDermott is not a big blitz coordinator or play caller, but he can get after you with four," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said.
"We did a nice job holding up, receivers were in the right spot and Trevor [QB Trevor Lawrence] made some really good throws with guys in his face. At the end of the day, making plays. That’s really what it takes on third down, it takes a little more effort, a little more energy, focus and concentration to be able to overcome some of those third-and-mediums, and even some third-and-long scenarios that we had yesterday in that football game. We didn’t change anything up, just our execution was better and guys making plays.”
Lawrence completed 24 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1 against the Colts. He became the first quarterback in franchise history to throw for at least 240 yards in three straight Week 1 games. He will see the Colts again this Sunday as the Jaguars look to improve to 4-2.
