Chris Simms: Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence 'Looked Great' vs. Texans
The Jacksonville Jaguars just made a statement.
With the Houston Texans handpicked as the media darlings over the last month of the season, the Jaguars walked into Houston and beat them 24-21 in each team's most important game of the season.
The win was the product of a coaching staff and roster working in sync, but perhaps the biggest reason the Jaguars avenged their Week 3 loss to the Texans was quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
“One thing I loved, the Jaguars attacked in the passing game – made a lot of big plays. Calvin Ridley stood up a lot today, they found him a number of times. Trevor Lawrence looked great as well," analyst Chris Simms said on Football Night in America.
"The Jacksonville Jaguars are a really good team.”
Lawrence completed 23 passes on 38 attempts for 364 yards with one touchdown and one rushing touchdown. Lawrence has thrown the most passing yards in a single game against the Texans in franchise history, passing QB Chad Henne (354) in Week 11 of the 2012 season. Additionally, Lawrence recorded the second-most single-game passing yards in his career with 364.
"I don't know how other people will take it, but it doesn't really matter. I think this was a huge division game. You look at how well Houston has been playing, they were kind of nipping at our heels in the division, so this was a big game," Lawrence said after the win.
"They win this game, we're all square, and they beat us twice, so they're first place in the division, and we don't really control our own destiny anymore. Of course you do in other senses, Wild Card and all those things big picture, but for us to be able to continue to control our own destiny, it's up to us and how we play. We just keep winning, we don't have anything to worry about. We're going to find ourselves in a good spot. I think in that sense, it's a huge game. Sending a message, I don't know about that, but I think to take more control of this division and take that next step and solidify ourselves, I think it's a huge game, and we did a great job finding a way to win.”
