Doug Pederson: Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence Is ‘Progressing Well’ in Concussion Protocol

It remains to be seen whether the franchise quarterback will be available in Week 16.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence remains in the concussion protocol but is progressing well according to head coach Doug Pederson.

"Still in the protocol, progressing well. But we have to follow the steps so we can't skip anything, so still in it," Pederson said on Wednesday.

Lawrence self-reported symptoms to the team following Sunday's 23-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, with Pederson believing the concussion occurred on a hit Lawrence took on a scramble late in the fourth-quarter.

The 8-6 Jaguars' grip on the AFC South has completely slipped away during a three-game losing streak, making Lawrence's status for Week 16 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a pivotal storyline to watch moving fotward.

"Yeah, you gotta be, you gotta follow the steps, you know. And it is really based on symptoms, you know, and how he feels. if he can sit in a meeting and tolerate a meeting, it's okay," Pederson said.

"If not, then we don't put him in there, you know? Because you're stimulating the brain, right? So, it's just based on symptoms. But like, if it's his knee or his ankle, he's in those meetings and he's, you know, he's getting the game plan and he's listening and, and, and all of that. So, you just gotta do it really case by case."

Pederson said on Wednesday that he can't disclose where Lawrence is in the protocol.

There have been a few cases this year of players entering the protocol and then playing the next week. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave and Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper have all done it this year.

"The number one thing is making sure he's 100% and he has been cleared by all the specialists," Pederson said.

"And then you have to make a decision as a team and see where he's at, too. But it definitely makes it harder, I guess."
