Former Jaguars WR Marvin Jones Returns to Lions

The former Jaguars wide receiver will now officially play elsewhere in 2023.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will officially be saying goodbye to Marvin Jones, with the veteran wide receiver signing a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday, ending his two-year tenure with the team.

Jones is officially the fourth different Jaguars player to depart in free agency and sign with a different team, joining right tackle Jawaan Taylor, pass-rusher Arden Key and tight end Chris Manhertz.

Jones signed a two-year contract with the Jaguars in 2021, going on to appear in 17 games and record 72 catches for 832 yards and four touchdowns as Trevor Lawrence's top target.

After seeing 120 targets and playing 90% of the snaps in 2021, Jones' role decreased to 81 targets and 66% snaps due to the signings of Christian Kirk, Zay Jones and Evan Engram.

"Marvin helped us win a lot of games this year. He was kind of Trevor’s go-to guy in certain situations. You saw him make the great catch in the Baltimore game for the touchdown there and really throughout the course of the season. Really unselfish player," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said at the NFL Scouting Combine in March.

"We’ll just have to see, again, would love to have all our players back, just see where it’s going to play out. Again, you can’t sign them all, you want them all, but you can’t. It’s part of this business. Whatever happens, I know Marvin is going to be, whether he’s with us or somebody else, he’s going to give 110% wherever he’s at.”
