Tom Brady. Kobe Bryant. Michael Jordan. Sure, they are all-time greats at their respective craft but when you look back at the careers of these icons, a relentless work ethic and desire to get better separate them from the rest of their peers.
Most importantly, they didn’t need anybody to push them to work harder.
Throughout the young career of Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars have seen this desire to consistently improve individually and collectively as a team, emerging as a team leader and inspirational figure among his peers.
In an interview on the Jim Rome Show, Lawrence showcased his mamba mentality when asked about what he can do to improve going into his third season as a professional, citing winning as the most important factor with a secondary focus on statistical improvement.
“Yeah, I think it’s just a constant, continual growth process,” Lawrence said. “I mean, just continue to learn. I think you just learn so much in this game. You never arrive. There’s certainly a lot for me to do personally and as a team, collectively, there’s a lot in front of us.
"So the future is bright. I mean for me, I’ve never been a big stats guy at all. I don’t set out before the season to have this amount of yards or this many touchdowns or whatever. Obviously, like turnovers, I kind of think in my head I want to limit it. I want to ideally have less turnovers than last year, but you can’t always control that. So really just for me to take that same jump I did from year one to year two, to do the same thing year two to year three. So, if I can just keep getting better, it’s going to continue to put us in a position to win a lot of games and to ultimately be playing, you know, in the game like this weekend. That’s the goal and that’s what we want to get to.”
Time will tell if Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars can capitalize on their lofty goals for next season, but one thing is clear: The relentless pursuit of improvement will be a persistent theme for both Lawrence and this Jaguars team for next season and beyond.
