Jaguars Finalize Initial 53-Man Roster

The Jaguars now have 53 players with the release of Blake Hance.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have their guys.

After an undefeated preseason and another grueling training camp, the Jaguars have made their cuts, shaping up the first 53-man roster for the 2023 season.

"We are finding that is real. We also know that there’s going to be some good football players that are going to have to be released," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said about the team's depth and tough choices on Monday.

"It’s a tough 24 hours or so here and around the league. It’s just a credit to Trent [General Manager Trent Baalke] and his staff and the quality of athletes and players on this roster with the depth that we’ve brought to this team. It’s bittersweet, you’d love to keep them all but you can’t and you got to make the best decisions moving forward.”

Releasing offensive lineman Blake Hance was the final move the Jaguars made to get down to 53 players, though Hance will likely return on Wednesday if Cooper Hodges is placed on injured reserve.

The Jaguars also have three players who do not count toward their 53-man roster: offensive tackle Cam Robinson; defensive lineman Dawuane Smoot; and cornerback Chris Claybrools.
