Jaguars Podcast: Breaking Down the Defensive Coordinator Search

What do John and Gus think about the Jaguars defensive coordinator search so far?

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in the middle of one of the most important decisions of the Doug Pederson era.

A day after the 2023 season ended in disappointment in a loss to the Tennessee Titans, Pederson fired defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell and seven other defensive assistants.

Now, Pederson and the Jaguars are undergoing a search that will determine the new direction of the defense moving forward.

So far, the Jaguars have been tied to six candidates:

  • Former New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Wink Martindale
  • Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen
  • Jets safeties coach Marquand Manuel
  • Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Shane Bowen
  • Tennessee Titans defensive backs coach Chris Harris
  • Baltimore Ravens passing game coordinator Chris Hewitt

With the Jaguars looking for Caldwell's replacement among this group of coaches, the question now is which coach is the best fit for Pederson's staff? Which coach's scheme would mesh the best with the Jaguars' current roster?

There is also the question of whether this will be the Jaguars' entire pool of candidates. The Jaguars have not yet been tied to former Buffalo Bills coordinator Leslie Fraizer, while they were blocked by the Carolina Panthers from interviewing Ejiro Evero.

John and Gus discuss all of this and more in this week's episode of the Jaguar Report podcast.
