Jaguars' QB Room Ranked No. 6 in NFL
The Jacksonville Jaguars have seen their quarterback room transform quite a bit over the past five years.
From the days of Blake Bortles, Nick Foles and Gardner Minshew as hopeful starters to stop-gap backups like Mike Glennon, Jake Luton, Cody Kessler, and Josh Dobbs, the Jaguars haven't exactly had star-studded quarterback rooms in recent years.
The last several years have seen the Jaguars attempt to rectify this, with the Jaguars drafting Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 pick in 2021 and signing C.J. Beathard in the same offseason.
Now, Lawrence and Beathard are entering their third year together and their second year under head coach Doug Pederson. And with Lawrence's emergence in 2022, the Jaguars are seeing a big bump in quarterback rankings from ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio, with Florio ranking the Jaguars' quarterback room as the sixth-best.
They’re No. 6. Not bad at all, given where they were two seasons ago under the tutelage of Urban Meyer, who was completely unfit and unequipped to coach an NFL team. Trevor Lawrence made an amazing rebound from that experience, having a solid second season,"
Florio wrote.
"His epiphany came after the Jaguars lost in London to the Broncos and Russell Wilson. Lawrence’s new resolve carried the Jaguars to the divisional round, and the expectations will be even higher this year.
Aiding the cause is coach Doug Pederson, the man arguably in the best current position to become the first head coach to win Super Bowls with two different teams.
Ultimately, it’s Lawrence and Pederson. The other names and faces with change. Quarterback and coach will be joined at the hip for the indefinite future — and it will help the Jaguars become something they’ve never truly been. Perennial contenders."
In 17 starts in 2022, Lawrence completed 387 of 584 passes for 4,113 yards and 25 TDs. His 387 completions were the most in a single season in franchise history and his five rushing TDs were tied with Garrard for the most in single-season franchise history.
Lawrence joined Bengals QB Joe Burrow and Bills QB Josh Allen as the only players in the NFL with 25-plus passing TDs and at least five rushing TDs. Against the Titans in Week 14, Lawrence set a career-high with 368 yards passing and was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance.
The second-year quarterback totaled four 300-yard passing games and orchestrated three comebacks of 17-plus points, including a comeback from behind 27-0 in the postseason against the Chargers.
