Jaguars Re-Sign Adam Gotsis to 2-Year Deal
The Jaguars re-signed yet another free agent on Saturday, bringing back veteran defensive lineman Adam Gotsis on a two-year contract.
Gotsis is the latest in a string of re-signing by the Jaguars, following safety Andrew Wingard, cornerback Tre Herndon, cornerback Tevaughn Campbell, and now Gotsis himself. The Jaguars have lost a few free agents in offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor, tight end Chris Manhertz, and pass-rusher Arden Key, but they have more or less kept their key depth pieces from a year ago.
"You try to keep your core together. You try to sign as many of your free agent players as you can. This business, you know you’re going to lose some. We try to sign them all if you can," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said at the NFL Scouting Combine earlier this month.
"We’ve got some talented guys that we’d like to have back, but we’ll wait and see, see how the process plays itself out. I think the difference for us is these are really good players we’d like to have back, then you build through this process. You build through the draft and just add depth and talent that way.”
Gotsis has spent the last four seasons with the Jaguars, appearing in 47 games and making 19 starts, recording one forced fumble, 4.5 sacks, and 13 tackles for loss. Gotsis played in 17 games last year, recording 1.5 sacks, three tackles for loss, and two pass deflections.
"The last two years, we’ve delved heavily into free agency, and we’re at the point now where it’s draft and develop," Jaguars general manager Trent Baalk said at the combine.
"We’ve got a nice core, a nice core of young players. I feel really good about that group, with a good mix of veteran guys with a lot of experience. The whole thing for us now is about the locker room, making sure we keep the locker room where we’ve got it.”
