Jaguars' Riley Patterson Named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

The Jaguars' kicker scored 13 of the team's 19 points in a Thursday Night Football win over the New York Jets.

For the third week in a row, the Jacksonville Jaguars' locker room is getting some notable national praise.

Jaguars kicker Riley Patterson was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 16 on Wednesday, which comes a week after Rayshawn Jenkins took home the defensive award and two weeks after Trevor Lawrence was named the offensive player of the week.

Patterson winning AFC ST player of the week marks the second time in team history a Jaguars player has won a Player of the Week award three weeks in a row (Stuart/Barlow/Taylor in 1998).

Patterson connected on a career-high four field goals – from 32, 45, 41 and 37 yards – and totaled 13 points in Jacksonville’s 19-6 win over the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football.

More importantly, Patterson did all of this in some bad conditions, kicking into the wind and the rain throughout the contest.

Patterson becomes the third former Memphis Tiger to win multiple Special Teams Player of the Week awards, joining Stephen Gostkowski (seven) and Jake Elliott (two).

"That was tough conditions a week ago," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said on Wednesday.

"4 out of 5 field goals in those conditions was pretty impressive, and he is well-deserved of that. He has just shown consistency throughout the course of the year and just keeps getting better every game."

During the five-week stretch where the Jaguars have won four games, Patterson has made 13-of-14 field goals and all 10 extra points, with his lone miss coming in the wind against the Jets.
