Jaguars Set to Interview Titans Assistant Chris Harris For DC Role

The former Jaguars safety could return to his old stomping grounds.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking at another Tennessee Titans assistant for their defensive coordinator role.

According to Fox Sports' Ben Arthur, the Jaguars are set to interview Titans passing game coordinator and cornerbacks coach Chris Harris. The Jaguars are also set to interview Titans defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, making that two members of Mike Vrabel's former staff that the Jaguars are set to speak with.

The Jaguars are looking for a new defensive coordinator after firing former coordinator Mike Caldwell on Monday night. The Jaguars also fired seven other defensive assistants, leaving only three of Pederson's 11 defensive staff members left.

The Jaguars finished the 2023 season ranked No. 17 in points per game, No. 22 in yards per game, No. 13 in EPA/Play allowed and No. 12 in Success Rate allowed.

A former eight-year veteran who spent time with the Jaguars in 2012 as a defensive back, Harris is a well-respected defensive backs coach in football circles and was seen as an up-and-coming defensive coordinator candidate entering 2023.

Harris spent 2013 and 2014 with the Chicago Bears as a defensive quality control coach before John Fox didn't retain him in 2015. He then was hired by the Chargers in 2016, where he spent four seasons as assistant defensive backs coach.

In 2020, Harris was hired by the Washington Commanders as defensive backs coach, spending the next four seasons with the Commanders and overseeing a key part of Ron Rivera's defense. He was then hired by the Titans in 2023, leading to his promoted title.
