Jaguars to Interview Ravens Assistant Chris Hewitt For DC Role

The Jaguars could look to the Baltimore Ravens tree for a defensive coordinator.

Add another name to the Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator search.

Baltimore Ravens passing game coordinator Chris Hewitt is set to interview with the Jaguars for their coordinator vacancy, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said on Friday.

Hewitt has been a part of the Ravens defensive staff since 2012, joining the Ravens the same year they won the Super Bowl under Harbaugh. He spent five years as their defensive backs coach before being promoted to passing game coordinator in 2020;

"He joined the Ravens as an assistant special teams coach in 2012, a post he held for two years, before earning a promotion to assistant secondary coach in 2014. Hewitt has led Baltimore's secondary since the 2015 campaign, helping the team consistently earn standout defensive rankings," Hewitt's Ravens biography reads. "Prior to his Baltimore arrival, Hewitt spent time coaching at the collegiate level, including one year (2003) as Notre Dame's assistant strength and conditioning coach and an eight-year stint (2004-11) at Rutgers."

"He's been here many years and coordinates our pass defense. He just does a phenomenal job with that," Harbaugh said this year about Hewitt. "Chris Hewitt, Dennard [and] Zach, eventually these guys are all going to be coordinators and head coaches."

The Jaguars are looking for a new defensive coordinator after firing former coordinator Mike Caldwell on Monday night. The Jaguars also fired seven other defensive assistants, leaving only three of Pederson's 11 defensive staff members left.

The Jaguars finished the 2023 season ranked No. 17 in points per game, No. 22 in yards per game, No. 13 in EPA/Play allowed and No. 12 in Success Rate allowed.
