Jaguars To Release Stadium of the Future Designs This Week
The Jacksonville Jaguars will release renderings of their vision for a renovated stadium on Wednesday, an important step in their journey to gain approval to revamp TIAA Bank Field.
"The Jacksonville Jaguars will debut to the public a first look at conceptual designs for the Stadium of the Future tomorrow, Wednesday, June 7. Jaguars fans and Northeast Florida residents can tune into 1stDownTownJacksonville.com or Jaguars social media channels at 10 a.m. for the debut of a video visualization and renderings of the project," the Jaguars said in a release.
"Three years in the making, the Stadium of the Future represents the next step in the team’s efforts to transform downtown Jacksonville. On Wednesday, the Jaguars will also share additional information about how the community can engage with project leaders in community huddles scheduled throughout Duval County in the coming weeks. The Jaguars have been staunch in their approach in recent years in regards to renovating the stadium as opposed to building a brand-new facility. The Jaguars are also set to open their new practice facility later this summer.
“This process [before negotiations] is very close to its conclusion,” Jaguars president Mark Lamping told the Florida Times-Union in May. “This stadium has reached the end of its useful life. We believe that we can do a renovation in a way that it delivers almost all the benefits of a new stadium, but at a significantly lower cost.
“Our vision is the equivalent of a gut rehab of a house. I think it’s premature to talk about stadium cost. We know exactly what it’s going to cost, but we don’t know if that’s exactly what’s going to be built. We need to have some reckoning with the city. We don’t know if the city’s vision is going to be the same.”
If the stadium renovation is approved, the Jaguars will have to decide whether they want a stop-and-start process that will extend the renovation timeline but still allow them to use the stadium during the regular season; play elsewhere, such as in Gainesville or Orlando; or renovate a nearby site to accommodate an NFL schedule.
