Jaguars vs. 49ers: Kyle Shanahan Offers Scouting Report on Trevor Lawrence
The last time Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers played the Jacksonville Jaguars, Trevor Lawrence didn't even have 10 NFL starts under his belt yet.
Fast forward two years, and Lawrence has another 30+ games of experience, including two playoff starts that have helped mature the Jaguars' franchise passer. Shanahan has noticed.
“He’s always a problem," Shanahan said this week.
The Jaguars will have a chance to knock off Shanahan and the 49ers at home this week, and it will take a big performance from Lawrence to ensure it happens.
“I think Trevor is one of the more talented quarterbacks in this league. He’s a problem at any time,” Shanahan said on Wednesday. “The height he has, the size he has in that pocket. He can make any throw and what he can do with his legs on any type of play, whether it’s a design run for him or just getting out of the pocket and doing off-schedule stuff.
Through eight games, Lawrence has completed 68.3% of his passes for 1,935 yards with nine touchdowns and four interceptions. Lawrence has also rushed 42 times for 216 yards.
“I hope so. Every week you kind of hope it’s that week," Lawrence said this week when asked if it feels like an offensive breakout is coming.
"We’ve been a lot more consistent on just moving the ball, not stalling out as much. But then, you see two weeks ago, we have the dumb turnovers that kept Pittsburgh in the game and gave them a shot and didn’t let us really takeoff and blow the game open. It’s something like that every week that we have to fix, you’re hoping every week is that week and we’re emphasizing it. We got a lot of emphasis on the details of just not having turnovers, being better on third down and all those things play together and have a clean game. That’s the idea, having a game where you can come out of it not many turnovers at all, being great on third downs, scoring in the redzone, it would be nice to put all of those together this week against a good team like this. This is the week to do it, you got to play well against great teams.”
