Jaguars vs. 49ers: Week 10 Snap Count Analysis

Who played the most snaps vs. the 49ers in the Week 10 loss, and why?

While watching a game live can give you one impression of a player's usage, looking at the actual amount of snaps they played compared to their teammates can also give insight into the team's strategy and outlook.

When looking at the snap counts for the Jacksonville Jaguars after their 34-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers at home, it is clear to see what kind of plan the Jaguars went into the game with, and what limitations they had from a personnel standpoint.

Who played a lot, and why? Did the snaps mean anything or nothing? We examine below:

Offense (57 snaps)

  • LT Cam Robinson: 57 (100%)
  • LG Walker Little: 57 (100%)
  • C Luke Fortner: 57 (100%)
  • RG Brandon Scherff: 57 (100%)
  • RT Anton Harrison: 57 (100%)
  • QB Trevor Lawrence: 54 (95%)
  • WR Calvin Ridley: 52 (91%)
  • WR Christian Kirk: 51 (89%)
  • TE Evan Engram: 49 (86%)
  • RB Travis Etienne: 35 (61%)
  • WR Tim Jones: 33 (58%)
  • WR Elijah Cooks: 17 (30%)
  • TE Brenton Strange: 14 (25%)
  • RB D'Ernest Johnson: 12 (21%)
  • RB Tank Bigsby: 10 (18%)
  • TE Luke Farrell: 9 (16%)
  • WR Jamal Agnew: 3 (5%)
  • QB C.J. Beathard: 3 (5%)
  1. The Jaguars saw another receiver go down with injury after Jamal Agnew left with a shoulder injury in the first-half. This led to more looks for Tim Jones, who only saw targets in the first quarter.
  2. Travis Etienne had his smallest snap share of the season. It is unclear why the Jaguars went away from Etienne, who only had nine carries, though it could be because they are finally set on giving him extended breaks instead of piling the entire running game on him.
  3. With Etienne on the sideline more often this week, it meant a season-high snap count for D'Ernest Johnson, who out-snapped third-round rookie Tank Bigsby for the first time this season. Johnson looks like the No. 2 back right now.

Defense (62 snaps)

  • FS Andre Cisco: 62 (100%)
  • SS Rayshawn Jenkins: 62 (100%)
  • LB Devin Lloyd: 62 (100%)
  • LB Foyesade Oluokun: 62 (100%)
  • CB Darious Williams: 51 (82%)
  • OLB Josh Allen: 49 (79%)
  • OLB Travon Walker: 43 (69%)
  • DL Adam Gotsis: 35 (56%)
  • CB Tyson Campbell: 32 (52%)
  • FS Andrew Wingard: 31 (50%)
  • DL Foley Fatukasi: 28 (45%)
  • DL Roy Robertson-Harris: 27 (44%)
  • DL Jeremiah Ledbetter: 26 (42%)
  • DL Dawuane Smoot: 26 (42%)
  • CB Greg Junior: 23 (37%)
  • CB Tre Herndon: 16 (26%)
  • DL Tyler Lacy: 16 (26%)
  • DL DaVon Hamilton: 16 (26%)
  • OLB K'Lavon Chaisson: 15 (24%)
  1. The Jaguars were in a lot of base and big nickel looks this week, with Andrew Wingard playing more snaps than nickel cornerback Tre Herndon. The Jaguars must have thought three-safety looks was the way to adjust to the 49ers' 22 and 21 personnel looks, similar to their strategy vs. the Baltimore Ravens last week.
  2. Tyler Lacy recorded the first quarterback hit of his career and played the same amount of snaps as DaVon Hamilton, showing that the Jaguars are still working Hamilton back slowly.
  3. Greg Junior might be a starter moving forward after Tyson Campbell left the game with a hamstring injury, something that has lingered with him since Week 6.
