Jaguars vs. Bills: Week 5 Snap Count Analysis

Who played the most snaps vs. the Buffalo Bills in Week 5 and why?

While watching a game live can give you one impression of a player's usage, looking at the actual amount of snaps they played compared to their teammates can also give insight into the team's strategy and outlook.

When looking at the snap counts for the Jacksonville Jaguars after their 25-20 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, it is clear to see what kind of plan the Jaguars went into the game with, and what limitations they had from a personnel standpoint.

Who played a lot, and why? Did the snaps mean anything or nothing? We examine below:

Offense (88 snaps)

  • C Luke Fortner: 88 (100%)
  • RG Brandon Scherff: 88 (100%)
  • RT Anton Harrison: 88 (100%)
  • QB Trevor Lawrence: 88 (100%)
  • LT Cam Robinson: 85 (97%)
  • LG Tyler Shatley: 77 (88%)
  • WR Calvin Ridley: 75 (85%)
  • TE Evan Engram: 75 (85%)
  • WR Christian Kirk: 73 (83%)
  • RB Travis Etienne: 73 (83%)
  • WR Zay Jones: 38 (43%)
  • TE Luke Farrell: 33 (38%)
  • TE Brenton Strange: 24 (27%)
  • WR Tim Jones: 23 (26%)
  • RB Tank Bigsby: 13 (15%)
  • WR Jamal Agnew: 11 (12%)
  • OL Walker Little: 11 (72%)
  • OL Blake Hance: 3 (3%)
  • RB D'Ernest Johnson: 1 (1%)
  • RB JaMycal Hasty: 1 (1%)
  1. The value of Tyler Shatley is proven seemingly weekly. Offensive lineman Walker Little was injured on the 11th snap of the game and didn't return, with head coach Walker Little saying on Monday that Little was undergoing an MRI. Shatley served as a top backup from Weeks 1 through 3, started at left guard in Week 4, and then filled in for most of the game on Sunday.
  2. Evan Engram played the fifth-largest percentage of snaps in his Jaguars career on Sunday, helping fill in after wide receiver Zay Jones left with a knee injury during the second half. Engram has now been targeted eight times in each of the last four games, too.
  3. Another week, another forgettable game in terms of production for the Jaguars' top-100 picks at tight end and running back. Brenton Strange and Tank Bigsby combined for 37 snaps, touching the ball three times for eight yards. The two ran a combined 10 routes, pass-blocked for a combined seven snaps, and run-blocked for a combined 17 times.

Defense (60 snaps)

  • SS Rayshawn Jenkins: 60 (100%)
  • FS Andre Cisco: 60 (100%)
  • CB Tyson Campbell: 60 (100%)
  • LB Foyesade Oluokun: 60 (100%)
  • CB Darious Williams: 58 (97%)
  • OLB Travon Walker: 53 (88%)
  • OLB Josh Allen: 51 (85%)
  • ILB Chad Muma: 50 (83%)
  • CB Tre Herndon: 42 (70%)
  • DL Roy Robertson-Harris: 41 (68%)
  • DL Jeremiah Ledbetter: 25 (42%)
  • DL Foley Fatukasi: 22 (37%)
  • DL Angelo Blackson: 19 (32%)
  • DL Adam Gotsis: 16 (27%)
  • OLB K'Lavon Chaisson: 13 (22%)
  • FS Antonio Johnson: 10 (17%)
  • FS Andrew Wingard: 8 (13%)
  • DL Tyler Lacy: 8 (13%)
  • OLB Yasir Abdullah: 4 (7%)
  1. Sunday marked the NFL debut of Antonio Johnson, who missed the four handful of games with a nagging hamstring injury. He spent eight snaps in coverage, and not seeing a target thrown his way.
  2. Travon Walker and Josh Allen combined for eight pressures on Sunday, with four pressures apiece. Yasir Abullah had one pressure on four pass rushes, while K'Lavon Chaisson had zero on nine rushes.
  3. One of the most surprising snap splits this season has to be Foley Fatukasi and Jeremiah Ledbetter in Week 5. Ledbetter played more snaps than the Jaguars' big-money signing for the first time, with the biggest difference being seven more snaps on passing downs than Fatukasi.
