Jaguars vs. Buccaneers: Trevor Lawrence Officially Questionable For Week 16
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is officially questionable for a Christmas Eve matchup vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Lawrence has been in concussion protocol since the immediate aftermath of the team's 23-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens last Sunday. Lawrence didn't practice on Wednesday or Thursday, but was officially limited on Friday.
“Obviously still in, but part of protocol and where he’s at in the stages is he can practice today," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said. "That still doesn’t mean he’s cleared, but part of it is to actually go through a practice and the stress and all that stuff on him. He’ll be out there today and going through it.”
Pederson said on Friday that if Lawrence doesn't clear by tomorrow, he will not travel with the team for their road battle vs. the Buccaneers, which comes on the heels of a season-worst three-game losing streak.
When asked if Lawrence's chances to start on Sunday were a coin flip, Pederson said, "I think it’s better than that, but still, this is Friday and he’s still technically in the protocol until he can clear. You really can’t even compare it, it’s not really a coin flip. It has to be yes or no type of deal.”
If Lawrence doesn't start, the Jaguars will turn the offense over to veteran backup quarterback C.J. Beathard, marking the first game since Lawrence was drafted that he didn't start.
“Pretty well. For the most part, there’s been no distractions, not a lot of questions or wondering ifs, ands or buts," Pederson said. "Guys just focus on their job. Obviously, with situations like this when any player is in a concussion protocol, it’s just up to the player himself, the healing, and going through the proper steps. I think it’s just business as usual.”
In addition to Lawrence, wide receiver Zay Jones, tight end Brenton Strange, cornerback Christian Braswell, cornerback Andre Cisco, and safety Andre Cisco are all questionable as well.
“Brenton [Strange] has been good this week and feels good, so I think he’s good to go. Tyson [Campbell] and Cisco had good days yesterday, we’ll get them a bunch of time today and the numbers of reps we have to see where they’re at. Optimistic that they can play," Pederson said.
