Jaguars vs. Buccaneers: Week 16 Snap Count Analysis

Which Jaguars played the most vs. Tampa Bay and why?

While watching a game live can give you one impression of a player's usage, looking at the actual amount of snaps they played compared to their teammates can also give insight into the team's strategy and outlook.

When looking at the snap counts for the Jacksonville Jaguars after their 30-12 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it is clear to see what kind of plan the Jaguars went into the game with, and what limitations they had from a personnel standpoint.

Who played a lot, and why? Did the snaps mean anything or nothing? We examine below:

Offense (66 snaps)

  • LT Walker Little: 66 (100%)
  • LG Ezra Cleveland: 66 (100%)
  • C Luke Fortner: 66 (100%)
  • RG Brandon Scherff: 66 (100%)
  • WR Calvin Ridley: 62 (92%)
  • TE Evan Engram: 60 (91%)
  •  RB Travis Etienne: 48 (73%)
  • WR Tim Jones: 45 (68%)
  • QB Trevor Lawrence: 45 (68%)
  • WR Parker Washington: 38 (58%)
  • RT Anton Harrison: 35 (53%)
  • WR Jamal Agnew: 31 (47%)
  • RT Cole Van Lanen: 31 (47%)
  • QB C.J. Beathard: 21 (32%)
  • RB D'Ernest Johnson: 17 (26%)
  • WR Elijah Cooks: 14 (21%)
  • TE Brenton Strange: 11 (17%)
  • TE Luke Farrell: 5 (8%)
  1. The Jaguars saw C.J. Beathard get significant snaps for the second time in four weeks due to Trevor Lawrence's shoulder injury. This was the sixth game this season in which Lawrence did not play the entire game.
  2. Elijah Cooks only ran nine routes on Sunday, but he produced 38 yards on three catches in that limited sample of snaps. That gives him 4.22 yards per route, which is a season-best for any Jaguars receiver with a minimum of five routes in a game.
  3. The Jaguars will need some good injury news from Anton Harrison's back injury. Backup right tackle Cole Van Lanen allowed four pressures on 31 pass-blocking snaps, while Harrison allowed zero on 27.
  4. This was the first game this season where rookie running back Tank Bigsby recorded zero snaps. He now has six offensive snaps and two carries over the last five weeks.

  • OLB K'Lavon Chaisson: 21 (28%)
  • DL Jeremiah Ledbetter: 19 (26%)
  • CB Tre Herndon: 17 (23%)
  • DL Tyler Lacy: 11 (15%)
  1. Antonio Johnson got the start at the nickel position for the second week in a row, though Tre Herndon did see an increase in snaps compared to a week prior.
  2. Andre Cisco played just over half of the defensive snaps, with Andrew Wingard playing his largest share of snaps in a non-start this season.
  3. Similar to the safety position, the Jaguars also saw backup cornerback Montaric Brown play more snaps than usual while in a backup role, with Tyson Campbell spending much of the second half on the sidelines.
