Jaguars vs. Chiefs: Week 2 Snap Count Analysis

Who played the most snaps vs. the Chiefs and why?

While watching a game live can give you one impression of a player's usage, looking at the actual amount of snaps they played compared to their teammates can also give insight into the team's strategy and outlook.

When looking at the snap counts for the Jacksonville Jaguars after their 17-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, it is clear to see what kind of plan the Jaguars went into the game with, and what limitations they had from a personnel standpoint.

Who played a lot, and why? Did the snaps mean anything or nothing? We examine below:

Offense (67 snaps)

  • LT Walker Little: 67 (100%)
  • LG Ben Bartch: 67 (100%)
  • C Luke Fortner: 67 (100%)
  • RG Brandon Scherff: 67 (100%)
  • RT Anton Harrison: 67 (100%)
  • WR Christian Kirk: 54 (81%)
  • WR Calvin Ridley: 53 (79%)
  • TE Evan Engram: 50 (75%)
  • RB Travis Etienne: 48 (72%)
  • WR Zay Jones: 44 (66%)
  • WR Jamal Agnew: 25 (37%)
  • TE Luke Farrell: 19 (28%)
  • TE Brenton Strange: 17 (25%)
  • RB Tank Bigsby: 13 (19%)
  • RB D'Ernest Johnson: 6 (9%)
  • WR Tim Jones: 6 (9%)
  1. A week after Christian Kirk played the third most snaps among the wide receivers, Kirk led the Jaguars in targets (14) and receptions (11) and was the clear focus of the passing game. The Jaguars got Kirk going early and then kept going back to the well, so the rumors of his demise in the Jaguars' offense seemed to be greatly exaggerated.
  2. Tank Bigsby didn't get a touch or a target despite barely playing fewer snaps than he did in Week 1. After seven carries last week, Bigsby wasn't a part of the game plan this week and mostly played later in the game when Etienne was on the sideline with cramps.
  3. D'Ernest Johnson got half of his snaps when the Jaguars went to empty, with Johnson flexing out wide to wide receiver. It appears when the Jaguars go with that look, Johnson will be their guy.
  4. Brenton Strange was again used primarily as a blocker, not seeing a target in 17 snaps. o

Defense (67 snaps)

  • LB Foyesade Oluokun: 67 (100%)
  • CB Tyson Campbell: 67 (100%)
  • SS Rayshawn Jenkins: 66 (99%)
  • LB Devin Lloyd: 66 (99%)
  • FS Andre Cisco: 59 (88%)
  • CB Darious Williams: 58 (87%)
  • OLB Travon Walker: 56 (84%)
  • CB Tre Herndon: 45 (67%)
  • DL Roy Robertson-Harris: 41 (61%)
  • OLB Josh Allen: 38 (57%)
  • DL Foley Fatukasi: 33 (49%)
  • DL Adam Gotsis: 27 (40%)
  • OLB K'Lavon Chaisson: 27 (40%)
  • DL Jeremiah Ledbetter: 24 (36%)
  • DL Angelo Blackson: 20 (30%)
  • FS Andrew Wingard: 16 (24%)
  • OLB Yasir Abdullah: 16 (24%)
  • DL Tyler Lacy: 8 (12%)
  • SS Daniel Thomas: 2 (3%)
  • LB Chad Muma: 1 (1%)
  1. The Jaguars' iron man continues to be Foyesade Oluokun. He has played over 99% of defensive snaps since signing last offseason.
  2. Andre Cisco was arguably the top defensive back on the field on Sunday, though he did miss snaps on a series due to cramps, which is why you saw Wingard with the starting defense more.
  3. K'Lavon Chaisson saw his snaps increase this week, with Josh Allen playing considerably fewer snaps due to a shoulder injury. Allen's status for Week 3 will likely be a big storyline.
