Jaguars vs. Colts: Foley Fatukasi Left Off First Injury Report

The veteran defensive lineman isn't on the injury report from Wednesday's practice.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released their first injury report for the 2023 season, and it is a short one.

Ahead of the Jaguars' Week 1 tilt vs. the Indianapolis Colts, the Jaguars saw rookie safety Antonio Johnson miss Wednesday's practice with a hamstring injury. Rookie defensive lineman Tyler Lacy was limited with a hip injury and, most notably, veteran defensive lineman Foley Fatukasi was left off the list entirely after dealing with a lower-body injury the previous two weeks.

“Antonio is still kind of a week or two away, he’s still a little further away. I don’t anticipate him doing much in practice. Foley is back, he had a nice workout on Monday and feels good. We’ll get him incorporated back in practice," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said before practice on Wednesday.

"Tyler is another one that we’re going to get him back out there and see where he’s at and just monitor him through the first half of practice.”

Fatukasi appeared in 14 games last season, amassing 24 total tackles, two tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits, all career lows. His 1.5 sacks were the second highest mark of his career, but a quad injury during the season put up a road block for his first year in Jacksonville.

Fatukasi had a great start to training camp, however, and now looks set to debut in Week 1 alongside the rest of the starting defense sans DaVon Hamilton.

“Just how he’s attacked this training camp. He came in, great frame of mind, he wanted to get back to the player he was when we evaluated him as a free agent,” Pederson in August. “He’s done that. He’s been really impressive in these two weeks, he’s coming off the ball pad-levels low, and you’re starting to see those signs of a second-year player in our system, much like Roy [DL Roy Robertson-Harris] where their game now can go to the next level. He’s really embraced that. Again, he understands that, and he knows where he needs to be in and he’s heading in that direction.”
