Jaguars vs. Panthers: How to watch, week 5 predictions and more.
Kickoff: Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1:00 p.m.
Location: Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
TV channel: CBS. Broadcasters will be Andrew Catalon and James Lofton.
Radio: 92.5FM/1010AM WJXL-FM in Jacksonville.
Odds: Panthers are 3.5 point favorites over the Jaguars. The over/under is at 41 points.
Panthers entering the game as 3.5 favorites isn't surprising considering they are the home team and the Jaguars are entering the matchup without their best player in cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The two teams are similar in a lot of ways, but the Panthers have the advantages with Christian McCaffery, Curtis Samuel and D.J. Moore against a depleted Jaguars defense.
With that said, I would bet the under here, which is the direction I have been going for most Jaguars games. I think the offense will struggle vs. a great Panthers defense and while the Jaguars secondary is banged up, so is the Panthers offensive line. Panthers quarterback Kyle Allen has had enough issues in the pocket, and coming into the game without his top two left tackles and the team's best offensive guard could be disastrous for him.
Prediction: Panthers win 23-13. The Panthers entire defense has played well this season, but their defensive line specifically has been outstanding. The Jaguars offensive line has been up and down and gets exploited this week in my opinion. On the other side of the ball, injuries to the Jaguars secondary will have a big impact.
The clear scenario where Jacksonville wins their third straight game instead of loses is if the Jaguars splash plays (sacks and turnovers) on defense return. The defense has only forced one turnover all season and didn't record a single sack in week 4 against the Denver Broncos, but the Panthers have a makeshift offensive line and a young quarterback with turnover problems, so things could change this week.
