Jaguars vs. Saints: Week 7 Snap Count Analysis

Who played the most snaps on Thursday Night Football and why?

While watching a game live can give you one impression of a player's usage, looking at the actual amount of snaps they played compared to their teammates can also give insight into the team's strategy and outlook.

When looking at the snap counts for the Jacksonville Jaguars after their 31-24 win over the New Orleans Saints on Thursday, it is clear to see what kind of plan the Jaguars went into the game with, and what limitations they had from a personnel standpoint.

Who played a lot, and why? Did the snaps mean anything or nothing? We examine below:

Offense (56 snaps)

  • LT Cam Robinson: 56 (100%)
  • LG Tyler Shatley: 56 (100%)
  • C Luke Fortner: 56 (100%)
  • RG Brandon Scherff: 56 (100%)
  • RT Anton Harrison: 56 (100%)
  • QB Trevor Lawrence: 56 (100%)
  • WR Calvin Ridley: 49 (88%)
  • RB Travis Etienne: 49 (88%)
  • TE Evan Engram: 46 (82%)
  • WR Christian Kirk: 45 (80%)
  • WR Jamal Agnew: 29 (52%)
  • TE Luke Farrell: 20 (36%)
  • WR Tim Jones: 14 (25%)
  • TE Brenton Strange: 13 (23%)
  • RB Tank Bigsby: 8 (14%)
  • WR Elijah Cooks: 5 (9%)
  • RB D'Ernest Johnson: 2 (4%)
  1. Elijah Cooks hasn't hit the field much in his two games. This week, he blocked on four snaps and ran just one route. Those clamoring for him to get more looks in the passing game are likely just tiring themselves out.
  2. After leading the league in 13 personnel the previous two weeks, the Jaguars didn't make the tight ends a big part of their game on Thursday. Brenton Strange played a season-low in both snaps and snap percentage, while Luke Farrell played his second-fewest.
  3. Jamal Agnew ran 21 snaps and saw six targets, which means he was targeted on about a third of his routes. Considering he had just six targets in 2023 entering Thursday, that is a giant leap in target volume.

Defense (90 snaps)

  • ILB Foyesade Oluokun: 90 (100%)
  • ILB Devin Lloyd: 89 (99%)
  • SS Rayshawn Jenkins: 89 (99%)
  • CB Darious Williams: 87 (97%)
  • CB Montaric Brown: 86 (96%)
  • OLB Josh Allen: 72 (80%)
  • OLB Travon Walker: 66 (73%)
  • FS Andre Cisco: 61 (68%)
  • CB Tre Herndon: 61 (68%)
  • DL Roy Robertson-Harris: 53 (59%)
  • DL Dawuane Smoot: 47 (52%)
  • DL Foley Fatukasi: 38 (42%)
  • DL Adam Gotsis: 36 (40%)
  • FS Andrew Wingard: 28 (31%)
  • DL Angelo Blackson: 27 (30%)
  • DL Jeremiah Ledbetter: 24 (27%)
  • OLB K'Lavon Chaisson: 21 (23%)
  • DL Tyler Lacy: 12 (13%)
  • LB Chad Muma: 3 (3%)
  1. The Jaguars aren't taking it slowly with Dawuane Smoot's return at all. He has out-snapped K'Lavon Chaisson by a wide margin in each of his two games back and now has 62 pass-rush reps over the last two games. In those reps, he has two pressures and one sack.
  2. The Jaguars have made it clear who their top defensive lineman is. They have a healthy and deep rotation along the interior defensive line, but it is always Roy Robertson-Harris leading the pack. His production vs. the run and pass suggests this is the right move, too.
  3. After his previous single-game high for snaps was 24, Montaric Brown has played 140 snaps the last two weeks, including a personal high of 86 snaps on Sunday. It remains to be seen if Brown would have been the team's first option if Gregory Junior and Christian Braswell were healthy, but Brown stood out with multiple clutch pass breakups vs. the Saints.
