Jaguars Week 7 Stock Report: Receivers Have a Redemption Performance
The Jacksonville Jaguars (3-4) won on Sunday in a must-win game against the winless Cincinnati Bengals - they started off slow but finally managed to put points on the board in the second half. There were definitely a lot more positive takeaways than negative, but here’s whose stock is up and whose stock is down.
Stock up: Leonard Fournette
The AFC leading rusher, the bell cow, the driving force of the Jaguars offense. All three of these phrases can be used to describe Fournette. Fournette’s growth as a player and a professional has been one of the best things about this 2019 Jaguars squad.
Fournette has 715 rushing yards with surprisingly only one rushing touchdown. He has just over 900 all-purpose yards so far this season. He’s on pace for over 2,000 all-purpose yards once the season is all said and done. He also broke the record for most rushing yards through 28 career games in Jaguars history with 2,194 yards surpassing Fred Taylor.
He has matured quickly as a player and he has gone from a guy that fans wanted to trade to the guy he was supposed to be when the Jaguars drafted him. He’s the driving force of the offense, just like he was supposed to be.
Stock down: Andrew Norwell
Norwell has been a scapegoat for the Jaguars offensive line this season, but it’s not hard to see why. He’s doing decent in the run game and was a road grader on Sunday, but when it comes to the passing game he’s been terrible. He gets driven off the ball three yards every pass play. Geno Atkins made Norwell along with Will Richardson look silly all game long. The guards have been a problem for the Jaguars all season in the pass game. The Jaguars should try and revamp its interior offensive line next season.
Stock up: the Wide Receivers
You love to see it - a group that really underperformed a week ago really stepped up this week. Dede Westbrook and Chris Conely took over this game against the Bengals.
Westbrook notched over 100 yards receiving for the first time this season, including a lot of effort plays. The best part of this Jaguars team is every one that is apart of it seems like they want to be there. The team got rid of toxicity in the locker room and it improved the morale of the team.
Westbrook is one of those people that wants to help the Jaguars win games. Chark was a bit quiet this week and even had his first drop in what feels like forever. The veteran wide receiver Chris Conely had three receptions with 83 yards. This statistically was his second-best performance of the season. But, it feels like he’s been missing in action in this offense since week one - so to see him have a big day feels good.
Stock down: Tre Herndon
This might be a little bit of cherry-picking - but, no one else really came to mind when thinking about who had a bad game yesterday.
Herndon is taking steps in the right direction but it seems like he’s still making the same mistakes. He’s getting beat in man to man as well as zone. He’s got to play better.
Stock up: Myles Jack
Going to finish this list out on a positive note - Myles Jack had a fantastic game yesterday. Racking up five tackles and an interception. Jack started out the season a bit rough around the edges but the last two weeks he’s managed to turn it around. Himself, D.J. Hayden and Josh Allen have been the three best defenders on the Jaguars in the last couple of weeks.
Honorable mentions: Stock up: D.J. Hayden, Josh Allen.
